Advice From the Experts: Hair and Makeup

July 28, 2017

Meet Ryan Murphy!

Ryan is the owner, hair stylist, and make-up artist at Murphy’s Salon and Day Spa. Ryan created a beautiful make-up masterpiece on our stunning model, Nicole featured below.
“What excites me about the wedding industry is being such an important part of each bride’s special day. Every bride not only wants to feel good on their day, but to look good as well. I love being able to create the beauty on the outside that the bride is feeling on the inside on the most magical day of their lives. “

Bridal Hacks
From the Expert

One tip I always suggest is for the bride to have a trial of her hair and makeup at least 2 to 3 weeks before her wedding. This will give you an idea of the look, what to expect, and also gives ample time to make any changes. This way there is no guess work on the big day.
Another tip I recommend is to take plenty of pictures of the trial hair and makeup. This gives you the opportunity to see the ‘big picture’ and see the look from every angle.

Another thing I suggest to brides is to arrive with your hair dry, and wear a button down shirt. This ensures that when your hair and makeup are complete, you wont have to try and pull a shirt off over the top of your hair. And remember…your makeup may be darker than you are used to. The makeup will ‘settle’ and soften a bit throughout the day, but when a bright camera flash is on you all day, you don’t want to look washed out. That is exactly why we apply dark eyes, darker lips, and even a heavier eyeliner than you are used to.

What’s Trending

A current trend that I have noticed in the wedding industry, which is becoming a MUST, is airbrush make-up. It has so many advantages over traditional makeup.

The product line that we offer delivers a flawless finish that we customize to your skin tone. In addition to a flawless matte or shimmer finish, it also lasts up to 16 hours unlike traditional makeup.

With airbrush makeup we have more ways to shade and contour your look, and can even do tattoo cover up.  Also, we are noticing a lot more brides are wearing their hair all up again. This is a great way to not have to worry about your curls relaxing and coming out.

For the stylized shoot, I provided airbrush makeup. I used Dinair airbrush foundation on Nicole and customized the color to her skin tone. I used a natural earth tone palette on her eyes to create a ‘smokey eye’ but with natural tones.  We accentuated her eyes with human hair eyelashes to make her eyes stand out.

It’s More Than a Job

I have always had a passion for people. Whether they have spent the last 15 years in my chair, or they are a first time client. Being a part of the beauty industry has taught me so much about other people, as well as about myself.  So when the opportunity for my spouse and I to open our own salon and day spa came about, the time seemed perfect.

This industry is a very hands-on and an emotional business. When a client sits in my chair, they are trusting me with the ONE THING in their life that they have complete control of…their hair. I have watched so many of my clients graduate high school, college, and other big life events. The most exciting event that we get to share together is their wedding day. Being able to share my talent and artistry with a bride is like a big ‘thank you’ from me to them, and an honor to be a part of.

Love Is an Art

What makes us stand out among others in our industry is our team of artists we have assembled. Over the past 15 years in this business, I have worked with some amazing talent in the area. From their creativity, work ethic, skill, and quite frankly…just being wonderful people. So when our business was just a plan in our heads, I knew exactly the caliber of talent we needed.

Fortunately for us, it all fell into place. Each member of our team brings their individual strengths to our business. We offer over 25 years of experience behind our door. We offer our brides (and grooms) a range of services including formal hair services, airbrush makeup, traditional makeup, professional teeth whitening, airbrush tanning, facial services, massages, and mobile services.
